Congratulations to our very own Luke Jeffery for winning the Cornwall Hockey Association Unsung Hero award at their AGM last night. The winner of this award is recognised for their outstanding continued service to hockey in Cornwall.
Luke umpires for Caradon, Launceston and Cornwall teams while organising, encouraging and mentoring new as well as experienced umpires in the region.
He not only volunteers his time to coach Caradon Boys Under 12s and Under 14s, he also travels to tournaments with them while umpiring at many junior tournaments. This dedication encourages endless opportunities for participation in hockey for the youngsters.
Luke has been fixtures secretary for Caradon, planning for 8 teams at senior club level and has now taken on the Treasurer role at the club highlighting his commitment and enthusiasm to the sport and the committee.
All this and he still manages to find time to train and play for Caradon Men’s 1st team, who were promoted this season after an unbeaten run in Southern 2.
Caradon’s Badgers team also won the Badger’s ‘Good Spirit’ Trophy. The Badgers league is set up as an informal league, running across the season with the main focus on developing young players to transition into adult hockey. It also provides a friendly and open opportunity for those coming back to hockey.
The trophy is for encouraging participation and playing our games in the spirit that they are intended and Caradon are delighted to have been recognised for this.
