END OF SEASON 2021/22

Posted by Helen Manley on 8 April 2022

Caradon Hockey Club held their end of 2021/22 season evening at St Mellion Resort last weekend and after waiting over 2 years since their last event due to the pandemic, it was a fantastic opportunity to get together and celebrate the club’s achievements.

Around 150 members and partners enjoyed a meal, then the Captain’s speeches began across all seven teams much to the cheering and laughter of the audience as memorable and funny moments from each team’s campaigns were remembered.

Caradon have enjoyed their first ‘proper’ season after last year’s was cut short as another lockdown stopped the league just before Christmas and what a season it has been especially for Caradon Ladies 1st team who secured promotion as undefeated champions of Division 2 South. They will also attempt the double as they face Falmouth 1s for the Cornwall Cup on 23rd April, alongside Caradon’s Ladies 2s who will target the Cornwall Plate on the same day against Newquay 2s.

Following the speeches, awards were handed out to each team’s Most Improved Player and Player of the Year as voted for by their teammates.

The evening then moved onto special awards – the Committee Cup to Claire Brown for her hard work behind the scenes on the committee sorting membership and payment every season for the past couple of years, as well as captaining the Ladies 2s. Club Person of the Year went to Clare ‘Poady’ Poad for her continued commitment to the junior section of Caradon as well as her notable achievements as Captain of the Ladies 1s and the incredible season they had. There was also special recognition to original Caradon club member Glayne Price for her progress in umpiring, passing her Level 3 this year.

The successful and enjoyable evening then concluded with dancing into the night.

Caradon now finish league hockey for the summer, a sociable mixed summer league takes place with Plymouth teams while Pay as You Play sessions continue at Lux Park before the league returns in September.
