England Hockey Competitions
Men’s 1’s narrowly lost to Kingswinford in the quarter finals of the EH Cup
Mixed team made it to the England Hockey Tier 1 quarter-finals, narrowly losing 5-4 to Trojan’s.
Junior Section Highlights
A full detailed report on the junior section is available but here are some of the highlights.
Thanks to Sam for a great job leading the coaching team this year, supported by Julia, Laura, Clare and many others. The junior section continues to grow, with 71 members at the close of this season. It is wonderful to see so many older juniors giving back to the club by volunteering as coaches for the younger players. We are so lucky to have such polite, helpful and dedicated young coaches inspiring the future stars.
We were able to enter two U8 teams with children as young as 5 playing.
Excellent Country representation; Lily, Lila, Jess and Kerenza playing for U17’s girls, Sam and Ben representing U17 boys securing top spot in the South West League with a goal difference of 22 from 6 matches.
Tiegan organised a fantastic mixed interclub tournament for U10’s - U14’s
Thank you to Lynsey for organising another fantastic Junior EOS - it was wonderful to see so many children in attendance, happy to receive their medals and supporting their team mates during the awards ceremony.
Pitch developments
Caradon HC continues to push for better facilities. Most of last season and the start of this season was focused on ensuring the AstroTurf lights were fixed to a high standard with new LED bulbs. This finally happened in October following a period of training happening at different times to match with daylight. We are engaged in discussions with the committee in charge of allocating and spending the large grant that has been allocated to better the resources/facilities and opportunities for sport in Liskeard.
Closing remarks
I would like to say a huge “thank you” to all the people who work tirelessly to ensure the success of the Club: all our team captains, coaches, umpires, committee members, event organisers etc. Your efforts are very much appreciated, and the Club could not operate without you. We all enjoyed our End of Season (thank you for organising Marcia) and cannot wait to support (and play in) the Cornwall finals day this Saturday-what an incredible advertisement for our Club that four of our teams will be representing in the matches in Penzance.
Thank you to our home umpires for giving up their time on Saturdays, Sundays and even some weeknights to ensure that games are safely played. Thank you to Jules for organising our umpires; a lot of work goes on in the background each week to ensure that all games are covered. Thank you also to Poady and Carl for all the hours of planning and coaching they have provided for most senior teams this season; the promotions, positions in leagues and successes in plate/cup runs wouldn’t happen without your dedication to improving our play.
I hope that next season brings even more success as our men’s 1’s and 2’s embark on exciting times in new leagues and our ladies continue to make strides in their leagues. I would also like to see continued support across teams for those players who are selected for new teams next season, be that higher or lower than their current squad. Our junior section is thriving and those juniors who are already playing senior hockey will continue to shine next year, and rightfully so!
We always welcome new committee members, new fundraising ideas and any time that you are willing to give to ensure that our Club continues to be the best in Cornwall. Please speak to any current committee member and they will be happy to discuss your ideas with you. It has been a pleasure to be Chairperson for the past two seasons. Thank you all!
