Match Report

Caradon Men's 2's welcomed Penzance 1's today for the Quater Final of the Cup. Penzance are currently 3 leagues above Caradon 2's so we were under no illusion that it was going to be a tough match. The game started with much of the pressure being exerted by Penzance. Caradon weathered multiple attacks with Keeper Toby Riddle making some superb saves. Against the run of play Caradon found themselves in the opposition D and Ben P-R snaked left and pounded the Pz keeper with his trademark tomahawk. The vocal keeper had absolutely no chance as he felt the swoosh of 'nothing but net' behind him. Sadly for Caradon this energized the Pz team and they score 4 goals in the first half. Caradon scored a second which was disallowed after much deliberation from the umpires. The half time talk focused on the need for effort, not panicing and making good decisions. We stuck at it during the second half with exceptional play from so many of the team including, Carl Jeffrey, Drew Champion, Ted Dyer, Tom Turpin and Liam Champion to name but a few, consistently denying Pz from scoring and not just tackling players but then beating several others. Ben P-R received a Green card in the second half for an over enthusiastic stick tackle which was really just an indication of Caradon's determination. Sam P-R earned himself DotD for his vocal challenges of onfield decisions and for actually starting his run off the pitch for a Green Card that was actually awarded to his brother... Tom Turpin received Motm for determination and tenacious tackling always making life difficult for Pz. Penzance added 4 more to their tally in the second half making the final result 8-1. It certainly wasn't the dream result that we were hoping for but under the circumstances it was an excellent end to the season showing just how far we have come as a team against an opposition that on paper should have been looking to put 20 goals past us. Well done fellas an absolutely incredible season.
