Match Report

A brilliant result for the Men's 2's today against Duchy 2's who are in the league above. We finished with a 5-2 victory which was hard earned and well deserved. We had a slow start imagining that we could play in the same way that we are able to in our league. People attempted to carry the ball further than necessary and often got dispossessed allowing play to switch to the other end of the pitch. We got on the scoresheet after a few mnutes with a well worked goal which got pinged around the D via several short passes before finally being finished by either Jake Horton or Martyn Bevins (depending on who you ask). Duchy equalised shortly afterwards with an excellent goal. This made everthing a little more tense again. Sam P-R broke the dead lock towards the end of the half with a great solo effort dribbling the ball around the edge of the D and firing a flick into the back of the net. This was how the half ended. We started far more positively in the second half after discussing the best way to beat a decent side. Liam Champion opened his account when he found himself in space at the top of the D and stepped inside the D and deftly flicked the ball past the unprepared keeper. Then Duchy 'scored' a contentious goal when keeper Toby Riddle allowed the ball which was struck from outside of the D to trickle into the goal only to be shocked moments later when a Duchy striker claimed that he 'definitely hit something'. Rather than an angry exchange about this we regrouped and with blistering pace from the push back put Duchy under pressure.  A Duchy defender thought that he had ended the attack when he intercepted a pass only to be stunned as Ben P-R swooped in stole the ball from under his stick beat another defender and as the ball bounced to waist height in the D hammered the ball home with rightious venom stunning the keeper with the speed of the shot. This prompted the quote of the day when Ben ran back and said that he 'definitely hit something'. Our final goal came from Jake Horton our MotM who exhibited a massive work rate throughout and gathered a wayward defensive clearance and flew around several players (Caradon players were just trying to get out of his way) before drilling an excellent shot past the Duchy keeper. The final score was 5-2 to Caradon which was a very satisfying result and made us all believe that we are ready for the challenges of a higher league next year. DotD was voted to be Elliot Grange for his sock choice but it was later established that his captain had not made him aware of the need for non-black socks and so this award should probaly go to him instead. Proud to be part of this team today - well done boys!.
