Caradon Ladies 2s had their second home match on the trot last week, welcoming Falmouth 2s to Lux Park.
Following the defeat last week, they were keen to get off the mark early but a well worked short corner by Falmouth resulting in the ball going top bins and unreachable by any Caradon player, caught them a bit off guard. However, this seemed to spur the team on as they started linking play and putting up a press that even the opposition commented on how difficult it was to get past – much to the delight of Caradon.
It was that good linking play that got the home side back into the game as Laura Tuxford picked up the ball on the move into the D and her low strong shot went through the keeper’s legs making it 1-1 at half time.
Caradon started the second half as the stronger team, growing in confidence and that showed in their second goal. A team goal in the truest sense, the ball came from Maddie Scott at the back to Helen Manley on the right wing who passed forward to Katie Fear free in space. She took it into the D and a slip from Tuxford found Natalie Ridgers in space to strike, her shot saved by the keeper but quick reactions from Abbie Fulford slotted home – to much celebration both on and off the pitch.
The last 5 minutes felt like the longest ever as the strong Caradon back line including player of the match Charlotte Harrison, kept out Falmouth’s last ditch attempts to level the score. But, their dogged determination held out and the 3 points were secured.
The 2s travel to Totnes next week to face Dart, making sure they are alert and up for the challenge despite a very late 5pm pushback.
