Match Report

Following their win last week in their new league, Caradon Ladies 2s had their first home game of the campaign and knew they were in for a test against Teign who finished just short of promotion in this league last season.

The game started at a high tempo, Teign clearly had skilful players who worked the ball nicely around the park. However the home side got stuck in with their usual determination, Lauren Gouge chasing down the ball and applying pressure from the start. Caradon had their chances but couldn’t quite get the end result and it was a quick counter attack which put Teign in the lead.

With some changes in the defensive line, Caradon debutant Maddie Scott made some impressive clearances up the line to push the attack. As the sun came out and the temperature started rising, both teams welcomed the half time break to take on some refreshment and a chance to change up the tactics.

The second half started with Lila Johns up front alongside Laura Tuxford in the striking line, and with a quick break the ball was moved up the field into the D. A mistake by the Teign defender found Lila quickest to react and the ball was in the back of the goal, 1-1.
Caradon could be forgiven for feeling like a draw would have been a worthy result, given their ‘never give up’ attitude but following a short corner being given to Teign and a goal mouth scramble, somehow the ball trickled over the line giving them the visitors the lead 1-2.

Some quick reaction saves at close range from player of the match Lynn Oxenham in goal prevented the scoreline increasing for Teign, but with minutes ticking away neither side could add to their tally.

Despite this being their first league loss in a very long time, Caradon 2s can be proud of their efforts against one of the favourites to win the league and left everything out on the field. This weekend they are home again, welcoming Falmouth 2s to Lux Park.
