Match Report

Caradon started their league campaign with a comfortable 7-0 against newly formed Plymouth Lions.
After last weeks pre season friendly against the same team, Caradon began confidently knowing they had the personnel not only to create chances but to dominate possession. This was evident from the first whistle and attempts on goal from the hungry forwards were only thwarted by some great saves by the Plymouth keeper.
The deadlock was broken within the first 10 minutes when Daisy Heal cleared up a loose ball in the circle with a neat reverse strike and this really sparked the confident Caradon team into all out attack. Plymouth could not cope with the double pronged attack of Elizabeth Jeffery and Heal who drove forward at every opportunity. Heal scored twice with great solo efforts to complete her hat trick in the first half and Caradon were sitting pretty at the half time point.

This was a display of complete team dominance by the Cornish team with every player looking assured on the ball. The back line switched play patiently but with intent allowing the screens Molly Walsh and Hannah Bladon to then turn possession into attacks. Clare Mitchell was giving a master class in center midfield play and she was next on the score sheet when her powerful shot found the roof of the net.

Plymouth were hanging on but could do nothing to stop player of the match, Heal scoring her 4th and Jeffery tapping in 2 for herself at the far post. More chances were created but desperate defending and good goal keeping kept the score to 7.

A great display of total team hockey with a frightening attacking line up, this result will be a nod to the league that Caradon will be a team to be reckoned with this season. However with player availability an issue for next weeks game at home to title contenders, Falmouth they will need to show all their resilience and character that they learnt form last seasons venture in the premier league.
