Match Report |
Caradon played their second match of the weekend against Swindon on Sunday, knowing that to keep thier league survival dreams alive they would need to take all three points.
Caradon started with real purpose and the tempo was set. Right back Daisy Hunn was setting the tone, intercepting any loose balls and turning them into attacks. Saffy Cripps was enjoying the contest and attacking the goal with intent so it was against the run of play when the visitors were 2-0 ahead in a crazy 5 minutes. A high forward latched on to a hopefull pass that looked destined to run off the back line but she collected the ball and found her team mate who beat the stranded Helen Dellbridge in goal. The second goal was almost a carbon copy and left Caradon shell shocked and struggling to find thier usual passing game. Player of the match Abbi Ingram showed plenty of grit and competitiveness, dragging her team mates to continue to attack.
Half time came and a renewed believe was shown as the second half started. Jules Butterworth was finding good pockets of space and firing some great balls into danger areas. One of these balls deflected off a defenders stick high to Cripps who somehow managed to deflect into the path of Clare Mitchell, slotting home to give the team hope of a comeback.
Caradon continued to huff and puff but simply could not find the killer touch in front of goal. Swindon battled well and were stubborn in thier play knowing that a win for them would give them breathing space from the bottom two places in the league.
Caradon threw everything forward to find the elusive equaliser but as the clock ran down the search for a goal looked unlikely.
Despite the disappointment of losing such a crucial game, Caradon can be proud of the heart and character they showed, characteristics that will be needed in abundance for the second half of the season.
