Match Report |
Caradon played their last pre season fixture on Saturday against a Newquay team keen to avenge last seasons defeat.
With players unavailable due to injury and work commitments Caradon took the chance to try out players in different positions and give some of the second team players some valuable pitch time.
Caradon started at a blistering pace, attacking the heart of the Newquay defence and were unlucky not to score. Newquay settled and started to get their passing game together. Caradon began to look like a team who were unfamiliar with each other and during this spell Newquay took advantage of some miscommunication and were soon 2-0 up. Caradon continued to try and find a way to get back into the game but Newquay were in no mood to ease up and took advantage to make it 4-0 before the break.
Caradon regrouped at half time and hit back to basics. There were glimpses of some excellent play to give hope and reassurance that with returning players available the team is still very capable of playing some great hockey as they matched Newquay and created good goal scoring opportunities.
The game finished 0-5 to Newquay and Caradon will need to re set quickly as they host league title favourites, ISCA, for the league opener next week.
With a new look team, resilience and courage will be a key factor in their premier league campaign and the game against Newquay will be a good learning tool for that.
