Match Report

A disappointing 1-1 draw for the men's 2's against Okehampton 2's. Not really sure how to write the report as we were playing against at least 12 players and sometimes 13 for the entire match. You normally expect a little home team advantage in terms of umpiring but sadly this was a match that showed shocking and blatent bias. As the captain I tried to speak with the umpire on several occasions but was shut down and when I did finally manage to speak it felt like I was walking a tightrope with the seething umpire. Ben P-R opened the scoring within the first 2 minutes with a carefully placed shot after a beautiful pass from Freddie Seeva and it looked as if it was going to be business as usual for Caradon but from that moment on the tables were turned. They replied with an equaliser shortly after and after this every move that we tried to put together was either blown for a mystery infringement or the players were either stick tackled off the ball or physically smashed off the ball. Sam P-R was bashed off the ball outside the 23 by a MUCH larger player and we were awarded a short corner, it was a horrible tackle and the player was not even spoken to, the umpire informed me that as a short had been given that no further action needed to be taken. 1-1 at half time. The half time talk consisted of a discussion as to whether to leave the pitch and put in a complaint or whether to put everything in to it and try to salvage the win. We went for the latter and credit where credit is due we stuck at it against impossible odds and came away with the draw. Toby Pickering was calm under the pressure of sustained stick tackling and Isaac Moulds aquitted himself brilliantly. We had our chances and could have won and even had a goal taken away from us due to a 'very late' mystery back stick call. As usual our defence were epic with Carl Jeffery and Jason Brown having fantastic matches both for their tackling but for geeing us up and carrying the ball the full length of the pitch. Jason earned himself man of the match for just being a warrior. Joel Tamblyn had a great game in goal at least allowing us the draw. Least enjoyable game of the entire season but couldn't be prouder of my boys who didn't receive a single card and were not intimidated.
