Match Report |
Caradon took the long road to Swindon and despite playing some really good hockey came home empty handed after a 3-0 defeat.
From the first whistle Caradon were on the front foot, stringing some lovely phases of play together to create some good chances on goal. Jess Berry who was playing in the unfamiliar role as right half was having a great influence on the game, winning the ball in tight areas and using her pace to good effect.
Daisy Heal used her stick skills to draw defenders to her and made numerous cutting passes to her fellow forward, Clare Mitchell. The Swindon keeper had to make several crucial saves as Caradon surged forward looking for the opener.
Just as Caradon looked to be in control, Swindon scored 3 quick break away goals to turn the game on its head. As the half time whistle came along with the hail storm, Caradon looked dejected and would need a steel like performance in the second half.
A slight change in formation saw Lucie Kay and player of the match, Jules Butterworth take control of the center of the pitch. The ship was now steadied and the game was again an even match. Caradon pushed forward and nearly scored but shots were cleared on the line. Likewise Swindon created chances of their own and captain Amy Batty making numerous saves on the line herself.
As the game played out, Caradon continued to battle but despite their best efforts were resigned to the 3-0 loss.
The long road trips have required huge commitment from the squad and would not be possible if not for the financial support of Bind Timber and generosity of Callington Community College in the loan of their mini bus.
Caradon have 2 remaining league games to play, a home match against league Champions, Lansdown and a final trip to Wales to play Gwent on the final day of the season.
