Match Report

An epic victory for the men's 2's today against top of the league Devonport Services 2's. So nice to play them on a level playing field and I think that it is safe to say that they were pretty shocked. They started confidently passing the ball well and keeping us at bay. This soon changed after a couple of timely interceptions by Ted Dyer and Joe Stewart and from there we were able to build moves that rocked them on their feet. Martyn Bevins opened the scoring with a well worked solo dribble in the D and a well struck finish. This tally was added to shortly afterwards when another rocket from Bevins was deflected into the back of the net past the angry Devonport keeper by Jon P-R. After this the the Devonport tackling and play in general slipped into their trademark physical style and tensions began to build. Caradon remained unimpressed by these bullying tactics and calmly out played the visitors. Devonport were able to claw a goal back from a short corner when their striker positioned the ball perfectly into the bottom corner of the goal, leavig the keeper with no chance, credit where credit is due this was a beautiful shot. The third and most contentious goal for Caradon came when Ben P-R dribbled the ball up to close to the base line and was marshalled 'out' by one of the Devonport defenders ...or so they thought - the ball was not fully out and Ben slipped past the defender and nudged the ball in front of the keeper for and easy tap in for Jon P-R. The half ended 3-1. At half time we focused on more of the same and not letting our lead slip. We only got one further goal in the second half when Ben P-R dribbled the ball from inside our half beating several players and slipped it to Bevins who beat all of the players in the D including the keeper and slipped the ball to Jon P-R for his hat trick or 'tap trick' if you will... We managed to repel several attacks and our defence were absolutely fantastic  - consistantly thwarting a possible comeback. The experience of Carl Jeffrey and Jason Brown was telling where not only did they tackle fantastically but then provided hard accurate passes allowing us to attack in waves. MId field were great throughout and the wings and forwards also contributed to a memorable and very enjoyable team performance. We decided in the bar afterwards during the junior darts tournament than no one player could be picked out today as everyone did their jobs superbly handing out an unexpected but richly deserved beating to the League winners. So proud to be part of this team today - I could have mentioned every single player for their grit and determination. Well done boys you truly deserved this win today and hopefully this will be a taste of things to come for next season.
