Match Report

A great result for the Men's 2's this weekend against and 'new and improved' Truro 5's. We made hard work of the first half missing several chances and not converting our short corners. They were playing their 'new and improved' keeper who made several good saves. The deadlock was broken when Sam P-R whipped in an excellent cross (almost too good) to Jon P-R who struck it just inside the D beating the keeper. The result stayed the same for the rest of the half with the only other excitement coming when Carl Jeffrey was involved in a bit of 'argy bargy' and saw green as a result. We had a positive team talk pointing out that we were not fulfilling our potential and that various fingers should be pulled out. This seemed to have the desired result and although Truro had a few opportunities they never really threatened the increasing dominance of the 2's. We secured a P flick when the ball was stopped by a foot on the line and Ben P-R stepped up - sadly his powerful flick went just wide. Rather than crushing him, this set back spurred Ben on. Things really started to click after this and it wasn't long until Martyn Bevins added our second with a frustration fueled venemous strike from a short giving the defence absolutely no chance. Jack Rowe added our third when he picked up a Bevins strike off the keepers pads and calmly slotted it in. By this stage Truro were starting to get a little grumpy (particularly the more mature members) and were putting in sloppy aggressive tackles and moaning about many decisions from the umpires. This broke the play up a bit but it wasn't long before Carl Jeffrey was on the score sheet when he skillfully deflected in a thunderous pass from Ben P-R - straight off the training field!! The less said about our final goal the better really (particularly in our houshold) but it came when Jack Rowe shot at goal and it was deflected back to the edge of the D where it was picked up by Ben P-R who pulled off an audacious rocket of a tomahawk across the face of the goal smashing it home top bins. This more than made up for the P flick and earned him MotM. Ted Dyer was also fantastic throughout calmly controlling the mid-field. Olly Hedges was carded in the closing minutes for fancy footwork and not being 5 metres from the hit and missed the last 1 1/2 minutes of the game but he like everyone else was getting a bit frustrated with Truro and their antics. After a shaky start we got the result that we richly deserved after being the better team throughout demonstarting excellent passing, strong positional play, great discipline and our customary strong defensive tackling. A great team effort today with 5 different goal scorers and a defensive line that any team in the league would be proud of. Well done everyone. Thanks to Mike for running the subs (on his birthday) and to Jules and Tim for their umpiring.
