Match Report

Caradon 2s faced University of Plymouth 2s in an early morning pushback at Lipson College in this top of the table clash, where the visitors had the chance to increase the gap at the top.

There were clearly some early nerves as Caradon seemed quiet in both the warm up and first few minutes, this showed when Uni jumped on a loose ball and grabbed an early lead.

However this actually seemed to do the travelling side a favour as it woke them up and kick started the drive that had got them the top position they were currently sat in.

Laura Hill converted this determination into a low hard strike infront of the keeper to draw level following a 'Tux' short corner routine. Now Caradon felt like they could restart the game on their terms.

The side were back to their linking play and passing confidently up the pitch, Nicole Harding and Kerryn Walsh in the screen pushing forward to the likes of Natalie Ridgers and Carina Hodge who had storming games in the midfield.

Hill was on fire again as she collected a long pass, as she approached the D the defenders seem to part a path for her to line up the shot and score. 1-2.

Goalkeeper Lynn Oxenham was called into action more this week than the previous couple and made some strong saves with her feet and stick to keep out any Uni chances.

Caradon wanted a buffer before the break and got one with one driving push up the park on a counter which found a long pass from the right into a waiting Abi Fulford who had time to slot past the keeper 1-3.

But the end to end half wasn't over, Uni took their chance and made it 2-3 just before the break.

The second half was tense for the players as well as the Caradon sideline as both sides had chances. Goal line saves by Claire Brown and player of the match Charlotte Harrison who put her body on the line for the team stopped any Uni chances to equalise.

As the time ran out and the whistle blew there was relief from Caradon as they made it through their toughest challenge yet, but kept together as a team giving themselves now an 8 point lead at the top.

They face Truro in the cup over the half term weekend then return to league action welcoming Bodmin to Lux Park on the 24th.
