Match Report

Caradon Men's 2's welcomed a much improved Falmouth 2's this weekend. A difficult game to report on as it was pretty evenly matched throughout. Both teams had scoring opportunities but failed to convert. Caradon had several short corners and were full of confidence but just couldn't put them away. Mike Parkinson took a ball to the face midway through the first half and other than saying that his name was 'Jules Walsh' during the head impact assessment was unscathed apart from a tough guy bruise. The half ended 0-0. It was a tense team talk focusing on effort and commitment and this we showed in barrow-loads in the second half. We had a large squad and every player should hold their heads up high due to the huge effort and determination that they showed. The subs who did not get as much game time as they would have liked were great and showed huge maturity and composure from start to finish. There was a messy passage of play after a short corner play with the ball leaving the D but being smacked back in by Tim Wright coming off their keeper and bouncing between two Falmouth players who were slightly wrong-footed and a little slow allowing Jon P-R to close them down and smack the ball into the goal between the two of them. After this came a war of attrition where Caradon grimly defended their lead - we did score again with Jon P-R finding the backboard once more but sadly the whistle was blown just before the ball crossed the line to award us a short corner, frustrating but thankfully not a deciding factor. Falmouth showed great composure as well and kept pushing us right up to the final whistle. James North had an excellent game making numerous critical tackles ably backed up by the rest of the defence and Toby Riddle in goal who pulled of a fantastic save. It was a pleasure to welcome back Richie 'Rapper' Tamblin who really dug deep showing effort in spades... It was a well deserved victory for Caradon today and I was immensely proud of each and every one of them. Sadly, mid-way into the second half, Mike Parkinson changed direction sharply and part of his leg went one way and the other part went the other causing him massive pain and we await the result of his trip to Derriford, we wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery. He was awarded MotM today for his great play and for really putting his body on the line for us. No DotD as we were all great! Well done boys - great effort. A big thanks to Sharon for running our subs and to Jules and Mark for umpiring.
