Match Report | The 4s faced off against a talented and youthful Falmouth team on Saturday. Despite their best efforts, the 4s narrowly lost with a 3-2 scoreline. However, the match was not without its fair share of exciting moments and noteworthy performances. The game kicked off with both teams displaying their attacking intent right from the start. The 4s made an impressive start, showcasing their skill with two beautifully executed field goals. The first from the stick of the ever-reliable Lauren Gerry. With a delicate touch off Sarah Strevens, expertly assisted Gerry, who made no mistake in finding the back of the net. The goal assist was a warm welcome back for Strevens, who showed her exceptional skills in the D, combining brilliantly with her teammates to create opportunities. The second goal was a result of a well-executed play by Amy White. With a perfectly timed hit, the ball deflected off the goalpost, setting up an opportunity for Strevens to make her move. Strevens fearlessly charged towards the keeper, and with a clever flick, managed to pop the ball between the goalposts. White was quick to react, securing the goal for the team. The match also had its fair share of drama with some chatter from both sides in the second half, nevertheless, the 4s managed to avoid receiving any green cards, displaying their discipline and sportsmanship on the field, whilst Falmouth gained 2 green card send offs throughout the game for various offences. Throughout the match, the defense was splendidly marshaled by Hazel Ashman and Rachel Quick, whose timely interventions and impeccable positioning ensured that the Falmouth team had a tough time breaking through. Tiegan Bindon and Amy White proved to be a formidable duo, making impressive runs and creating problems for the Falmouth defense. Their speed and agility put pressure on the opposition's backline and provided the 4s with numerous scoring opportunities. Emma Hedley deserves special mention for her effort and energy throughout the game. Her constant high work rate was a testament to her and commitment to the team she can surely look forward to a well-deserved post game. Lastly, a shoutout goes to Anna Gubbins, who stepped up and took charge as the goalkeeper for the day. Her willingness to take on the role despite nursing injury was commendable, whilst the usual keeper Josie Fasey played a stint in defence due to her planned lateness to the game. Gubbins showcased poise and resilience under the pressure, making several crucial saves that kept the 4s in the game. To cap off an impressive team performance, Lucy Johnson, Amy White, Lauren Gerry, and Emma Hedley were all deservedly named the team players of the match. This recognition not only highlights their individual contributions but also emphasizes the team's overall strength. Although the match ended in a loss, the 4s can hold their heads high knowing they put up a great fight against a talented Falmouth team. |
