Caradon entertained high flying Cardiff and Met at Lux Park and put in a really good performance to keep the scoreline to a 0-4 defeat.
The last time these two team faced each other Caradon were on the wrong end of a 10-0 lesson and struggled to get any play, but this game was a good example of how much Caradon have improved throughout the season and contested well in all areas of the pitch.
Cardiff were keen to score goals early but the home teams defence stood firm. Daisy Hunn and Emma Gliddon were making crucial tackles and frustrated the visitors until mid way through the first half when a well worked goal was scored following some sublime stick skills.
Helen Dellbridge pulled of numerous saves, earning her the player of the match award.
At the half time break Caradon refocused and although pleased with their first half performance knew they would have to be equally impressive in the second.
Playing with a high press Caradon looked to create some chances of their own, winning penalty corners that unfortunately could not be converted. Clare Mitchell and Libby Walsh were trying to find space to create chances for the forwards, but the technical skills of Cardiff seemed to thwart every effort.
With a slight dip in intensity Cardiff scored twice in quick succession, both from manipulating an overload on the left. Caradon bravely battled every ball, last ditch defending on the line and brave closing down of play was evident from the whole team. Beth Harris was constantly spreading the play but Caradon simply could not find the goal they so desperately wanted.
Cardiff scored their fourth from the penalty spot and claim the 3 points but Caradon can be very proud of thier performance and will look to build on it when they travel to Taunton Vale next week.
