Match Report

The Men's 2's travelled to Truro to play their 4's. We lost 4-1 when they visited us and so we knew that they were going to be extremely difficult to play at home. This looked like it was going to be the case as Truro soon took a 1-0 lead from a well worked but relatively soft goal. Caradon battled back for a significant period of the first half with superb defence from Carl Jeffery, Jason Brown, Tim Wright, Glen Young and Paul Rowe. Sadly after another excellent move Truro added their second. Instead of crushing the Caradon spirit this made us realise that if we didn't want a repeat of our last meeting that we really needed to dig deep. To a man, each player picked themselves up and dug in. No DotD today as everyone deserves a mention for their grit and effort. Fenton Robins showed just how much he has improved, on occasion deftly 'skinning' his oposite number despite the aggression that that player was demonstrating, this earned him a much deserved MotM. Our comeback started when Tim Wright injected the short corner where Martyn Bevins collected and drove the ball towards the goal where it was deflected by Wright completely wrongfooting the keeper and slamming into the net. The half ended 2-1. After a positive team talk a reinvigorated Caradon team came out and immediately put Truro under pressure. This paid off when a rampant Bevins received the ball on the edge of the D and with sublime skill beat the defensive line to be one on one with the keeper who committed to his dive only to be rounded as Bevyns slammed the ball home at a very tight angle 2-2. Truro were rattled and unfortunately this showed itself in hard sloppy tackles and anger which was not picked up by the umpires. There were a few tackles that could have resulted in cards, including one close to the end on Carl Jeffery which left him on his back for a long time. This didn't stop Carl from having a fantastic match making crucial tackle after crucial tackle. Jason Brown was a warrior today and we were lucky to have him. Toby Riddle made countless saves, really keeping us in the game. The game finished as a draw but was clear evidence of how much we have come on as a team. As mentioned before we played superbly together and deserve to be worrying the top of the table teams.
