Match Report

Caradon 2s played their penultimate game of this half of the season at home against their club mates in Caradon 3s. Always a strange game to play, the 2s knew they had to approach it like any other league game and go out for the win.

Despite alot of support for the 3s, including some speculative handmade signs, Caradon were hungry for the first and early goal. Laura Hill was that first goalscorer taking the ball around the keeper in her now expected style. They didn't have to wait long for the second, slotted home by Abbie Fulford to ease any anxiety about how this match was going to go.

Caradon 3s were quick on the break with up and coming youngsters making quick runs, but the back line of Marcia Burgess, Claire Brown and Nicole Harding stood strong. However an impressive solo run with the ball by Fleur Worden saw her dink the ball over two defending sticks and score in a tight angle to make it 2-1. Caradon 2s wanted to keep a buffer gap between the scores and got this with a short corner routine which saw Neve Hunn strike the ball at the close range, clipping the keepers pads and just about crossing the line.

In form player of the match Natalie Ridgers dominated the midfield, a smart ball was passed onto the run of Laura Hill for her second and Caradon's fourth going into the break.

The twos were enjoying their hockey and despite the flat atmosphere were keen for more goals. Piling the pressure on the D caused a defender to make a mistake and hit the ball with their foot, thanks to a brilliant piece of advantage play from the umpire the chipped ball fell into the path of Helen Manley who half volleyed into the backboard, 5-1.

Caradon 3s had more chances in the second half but couldn't quite finish them off and with the home sides forwards pushing for more goals, they came once again. Katie Fear who had been annoying the defence all afternoon jumped on a loose ball and slid past the keeper, which was followed in quick succession by Abbie Fulford bagging another one for herself after being the provider for many other chances.

As the game ended it was hugs and handshakes between all the club mates as Caradon look forward to next weekend facing second place Okehampton.
