Match Report

Caradon 2s travelled to Penzance knowing that the home team had built themselves quite a fortress, not losing any games at the Penzance Astro Park so far this season.

But the visitors started well, kept the ball at the attacking end and dominated play. Chances went by but it felt like a goal was coming, unfortunately it came unexpectedly at the other end as a quick Penzance counter attack put them 1-0 up. Missing a few regulars in defence, Caradon had to shuffle a few positions but once again against the run of play Penzance took their chances in front of goal and found themselves 2-0 up at the break.

After a half time talk from the captains, Caradon had to reset but their determination this season they knew they could still get something from this game.

This didn't quite go to plan when Penzance for a third time found the backboard, thinking they had put the game to bed. Caradon had other plans.

Step up Abbie Fulford who, after some brilliant more 'Caradon' like passing through the field, received the ball in the D and struck past the keeper. Driven on by this buzz of inspiration, the team got back to simple triangle movements and quick taking of sideline hits to head goalwards.

Laura Hill had been close to goal all afternoon, so her hard work losing her defender paid off when she jumped on a pass through the channel to make it 3-2. Knowing they didn't have much time left to get a point or three from this match, it was fitness that got the travelling yellows a much deserved third goal as it once again found Abbie Fulford infront of goal following a short corner routine. She absolutely smashed it home to level the scores.

Both teams played out to the final whistle, with credit to the Penzance keeper whose early saves changed the game. Caradon can be proud how their never give up attitude got them a hard fought point in what was their real first test of team spirit this season.

They don't travel so far next week with a match against fellow club team Caradon 3s in the penultimate game before the Christmas break.
