Caradon welcomed Lydney to Lux Park on Saturday and got their first win of the season.
After the previous weeks heavy defeat, Caradon were determined to prove to themselves and their supporters that they really can compete at this level. The positive attitude took a dent when Lydney converted the first penalty corner of the day within 5 minutes. Caradon were unfazed by this and started to find their rhythm. Jules Butterworth was controlling the middle of the park and the home team were starting to enjoy space which in previous weeks would have been a luxury. Daisy Heals' pace was staring to put Lydneys' defence on the back foot and it was her break away run and inch perfect pass to strike partner Jess Berry that led to the equaliser. Berry calmly smashing the ball past the flat footed keeper.
Player of the match Emma Gliddon was enjoying the contest and alongside her other defenders Daisy Hunn and Amy Batty thwarted most attacks. Chances on goal were limited to penalty corners but unfortunately Lydney were good at converting them and took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Caradon still believed the game was winnable and decided to continue to attack. A change in personnel in the screen position saw Abbi Ingram taking charge. Driving at the visitors defence and spreading the play to great areas of the pitch. Claire Mitchell was having a bigger influence and her interplay with the hungry forwards to led to a penalty corner which Libby Walsh deflected home to level the scores.
Lydney were now becoming frustrated and Caradon took full advantage using quick passes to move the ball into dangerous areas. Ingram scored her first goal of the season to cap a fantastic performance and Heal scored a fourth after a good team move.
With the full time whistle blown, Lydney were awarded another penalty corner. With the game already won it was still frustrating to see Lydney convert to make the scoreline 4-3.
A well deserved win that shows how much this team have improved and learnt quickly to compete at this level.
This week the team make their 3rd trip to Wales to take on Cardiff Uni which is sure to be a good game.
