Match Report

Caradon Men's 2's  welcomed Plymoth University 3's. A much improved Plymouth team started brightly and put us under pressure from the first whistle. They had relatively few chances thanks to the strength and tenacity of our defence but certainly kept us on our toes. Attacks were consistently thwarted which must have been frustrating for the visiitors. At the other end of the pitch Caradon found it hard to string together attacking moves and rarely visited the D. Fenton Robins in his first match for Caradon played very well under pressure and gave us an insight into what we should expect from him as he gains more experience. We are really looking forward to him playing more matches and becoming the great player that it seems certain he will be. Midway through the first half ex-Caradon player Matt Lampshire put Plymouth ahead and it remained this way until around 15 minutes into the second half. Excellent play from Carl Jeffery, Ted Dyer, Joel Tamblyn and Garry Mueller allowed us to start building moves and tightening our grip on the match. From this point on we were firmly in control generating chance after chance. Jon P-R was not able to convert at least two relatively straightforward goals and others were missed as well but it was clear that a breakthrough was coming. MIke Parkinson supplied some excellent through balls and this pressure lead to several short corners. Regrouping after a short corner attack the ball was slipped to Parkinson from Ted Dyer and he sent a powerful flick towards the top of the net and this was deflected in above head height by Jon P-R levelling the score. We then started to overrun the visitors and it wasn't long until another shot from Jon P-R was stopped on the line by a Plymouth foot - resulting in penalty flick which was calmly converted by a confident Mike Parkinson. There were other opportunities but non were put away. Freddie Seeva had a good game on the wing in the second half but Joel Tamblyn took man of the match for his tenacious tackling and all out effort. An excellent result today 2-1 to Caradon - a much deserved team win!
