Match Report |
A very satisfying 3-1 win today for the men's 2's against Penzance 3's. This was not only a league match but a cup match as well all rolled into one. Caradon fielded a strong team who were clearly keen to win right from the first whistle. Caradon mounted several well worked attacks early on but were unable to find the back of the net and the game remained tied for at least the first quarter which normally would have unsettled the team but in fact only spurred us on to greater efforts. This effort was rewarded when the Penzance keeper decided that Jon P-R was going to shoot and made a sliding beeline for him but before the enevitable contact was made Jon layed the ball off to MIke Parkinson who was in the perfect position to calmly push the ball into the goal. The rest of the half continued without score. Caradon started the second half with renewed purpose and played far better hockey and it wasn't long into the half that MIke Parkinson stepped into the top of the D and sent a sizzling flick into the back of the net, completely fooling the furious keeper. From this point on Caradon's class and composure began to shine through, we consitently confounded the opposition with rock solid defence and mounted several attacks from defence all of the way up the pitch. This was the point that Joe Stewart decided that we should put the game out of reach, demonstrating effortless skill to skin several players before finding himself deep in the D and slamming home an absolutely fantastic solo goal. The only scoreline blip came when Penzance who had looked dangerous on several occasions managed to score a consolation goal which was a shame as the defence and keeper Toby Riddle certainly deserved a clean sheet today after brilliant performances. There was definitely some unnecessary force used by the PZ keeper who was fortunate not to be seeing red today and some tired and frustrated defensive tackles from the visitors but all of this was handled and we ultimately achieved our objective. Joe Stewart received Man of the Match today and Sam P-R (self nominated along with teammates) received DotD for a two pronged attack of the most outrageous 'haymaking' stick tackle and celebrating Jon P-R's goal that never was, whilst the ball was technically still in play and available for him to tap in. Well done today fellas - a brilliant performance and a well deserved win.
