Caradon 2s: 7
Newquay 2s: 1
Caradon 2s started their season at home with a fixture against Newquay 2s who were promoted last season.
From the start the home side were pushing for an early goal and it was Katie Fear who opened up her account first after some great build up play through the field.
It didn't take long for Caradon find their groove and Clare Poad was up next in the scoring, bagging two quick goals in succession - a hard low strike and the other using skill to get around the keeper.
Reenie was next up on the score sheet taking a touch into the area and striking home.
The dominance and confidence running through the team made for some really lovely hockey for the watching spectators. An incredible pass across the field from Abbie Fulford found Helen Manley who squared to a waiting Poady in the D to make it 5-0 at half time.
The new formation of the team featuring two pivot players Neve Hunn and Kerryn Walsh, worked hard to block the few chances Newquay had.
Helen made it 6 shortly after the break before Katie Fear jumped on a strike by player of the match Abbie and ensured it was over the line for her second.
Newquay did manage to get a goal 10 minutes before the end but it was Caradon who left the pitch all smiles with a start that couldn't have been better to get the 2023/24 season going.
