Women's 2nd XI Vs Truro 1 - Cup Match

Caradon 2s kicked off the New Year with a rearranged Cup tie against Truro 1, with the weather proving an extra opponent at a wet and blustery Lux Park.

Despite the Christmas break, a positive training session earlier in the week continued over into the Saturday match as the home side started with a dominance in attack. Opportunities warmed up the Truro goalkeeper as Caradon peppered the goal, Laura Hill getting her name first on the scoresheet to settle the team into a groove.

Returning after injury, Katie Fear was back with a vengeance causing allsorts of trouble to the Truro defence, twisting and turning and chasing down a loose ball grabbed herself a welcome back goal for her efforts. Truro had their chances, a young side were quick on the counter attack so the defence had to be back and strong – despite not having too much to deal with Lynn Oxenham in goal was vocal and supportive to her defensive line. Laura grabbed another impressive solo goal before the break as Caradon eased into half time 3-0 up with nothing but positive chat from captain Claire Brown.

Caradon were determined to not let the stoppage slow down their momentum, player of the match Lauren Gouge down the wing was providing outlets and passes to the forwards to jump on, making play opportunities and if not for the quick reactions of the Truro goalie, the scoreline could have been many more.

A well worked short corner resulted in the home side’s 4th scored by Neve Hunn, followed quickly by Abi Fulford whose determination made sure the ball got over the line to make the final score 5-0.  

Overall the game was played in good spirits with some lovely hockey, the two teams meet each other again in 4 weeks time in the league where Caradon will be hoping for a similar result.
