Match Report |
A 6-0 loss for the Men's 2's today against a competative Penzance 2's. After struggling to get a team together and being helped out tremendously by Rapper, Garry and Isaac North, who all stepped in at the last minute to give us the bare 11, it felt like a win already. It is great to know that when we are up against it that we have players around who will do what it takes to help out. Mike Parkinson, for example who played in goal pulled of a legendary performance to keep their tally down at a respectable level. Classically trained in the delicate sport of ice hockey Mike was more than equal to the task and repeatedly made combination saves against a shot happy opposition. Our defensive line played out of their skins, consistantly frustrating an over confident Penzance. It was interesting to note that whilst Caradon kept up a great work rate and team spirit throughout that it was actually the team firmly in command of the game that bickered and bullied each other. We had several chances in their D but unfortunately were not able to link up to score a consolation goal but again put together several moves that left their defence flat and out played. Ted dyer and Ben P-R were working well together with Ted putting in huge effort throughout to tackle back and to play make. Ben had a slow first half, struggling a little to get involved in the game against a physical and skillfull oposition, but stepped up massively in the second half and rattled quite a few egos as he skinned defenders and mid-fielders. LIam Champion was rock solid throughout both in attack and in much needed defence, showing his quality time and time again. James North put his body on the line with some vital tackling in his typical do or die fashion. Garry Mueller who earned himself joint man of the match with Mike 'Cobra' Parkinson, played his strongest game of the season, tackling like a hero and then laying off quality passes. The umpires were strong and fair, which kept the game running smoothly, sadly there was a bit of needle from the home side but to be fair we weren't expecting anything different. Sam P-R found himself in the right place at the right time on several occasions and Isaac North and Chris Bentley consistantly worked hard on their positional play to put Penzance under pressure. All in all this was a big game for us today and the team didn't disapoint. So happy to be captain of this team - what a great bunch of lads.
