Match Report

Caradon Mens 1st XI played their last home game of the season at Lux Park against East Devon. East Devon came to the game fired up as they had a promotion opportunity if they won the game, Caradon, on the other hand, had a point to prove after an away loss to East Devon earlier in the season.

The game started well for both teams, the match being played at a high tempo. It was the away team’s defence that looked a little more unsettled. The first goal game from a Martin Batty free hit to the back post, which was deflected in by Chris Fasey.

Caradon didn’t have long to celebrate, East Devon struck back with a clever leave from the marked forward to find a player arriving unmarked at the far post. The back and forward continued for the remainder of the first half with no further goals.

The second half continues in a similar fashion, with both teams playing well but not making the most of it in the key areas.

Getting our heads together at a short corner Caradon resolved to shorten the game up with tighter passing, this had an almost immediate payoff. Four quick passes from the middle to the left and back in again gave Evan Spencer space in the D to move the defence and keeper before offloading to Chris Fasey who had the whole goal to aim at.

On the ascendancy, Caradon continued to push forward again and were rewarded with a short corner. Tyler Walsh despatched the corner into the top left corner, with a little help from the defender’s stick, giving Caradon a good lead with 15 minutes to go. In the process of scoring Tyler managed to injure himself and took no further part in the game.

Keen to see the game out Caradon stacked the middle of the pitch and made East Devon play down the wings. With legs starting to tire, East Devon did manage to strike back, but the valiant effort of those on the pitch saw no further goals and the game came to an end with Caradon winning 3-2.
