Caradon took on local rivals Plymouth Marjons with a hugely depleted squad and despite the defeat can be proud of their performance.
The game started with both teams competing to get the upper hand. Caradon struggled to get thier usual passing game together and Marjons gradually started to put pressure on the home teams defence. Penalty corners were awarded but the league leaders held firm with some great defensive clearances form Amy Batty, Lucy Kay and Daisy Hunn.
Marjons could sense Caradon were holding on and upped the tempo another gear, scoring a goal midway through the half. Caradon battled to retain possession with midfielders Neve Hunn and Beth Harris trying to turn defence into attack but it was the Plymouths solid defence which limited any real threat to goal. Just as the half time whistle came anothe penalty corner was awarded and Marjons scored thier second.
Although slightly deflated at the half time talk, Caradon came out with a belief that has stood them in such good stead this season. Debutant, Nicole Harding stepped into the right back role with good effect and had an excellent game. Clare Mitchell covered every inch of the pitch in a tireless display and combined well with Libby Walsh and Saffy Cripps in midfield and held much of the second half in the front foot.
Marjons continued to push forward, looking to take full advantage of an under strength team and Caradons keeper Helen Dellbridge made some outstanding saves to keep the score at 2-0.
Caradon welcome back returning squad members for next weeks trip to Yeovil who are involved in a relegation battle so will not be giving points up easily.
