Match Report

With 1 point separating them in second and third position on the Trelawney 1 table, Caradon knew they had to get a win against Bodmin on Saturday at Lux Park and didn't disappoint with a determined game of hockey.

The away match of this fixture ended in a frustrating draw so Caradon wanted an early goal to settle any nerves and get their stamp on the game. It came in open play from Abi Fulford who finished off a fast paced move up the pitch with a low placed shot. It was key for the home side to keep up this pace as Bodmin were quick on the counter, but it wasn't long before they were comfortably 2-0 thanks to a superb long ball from Captain Claire Brown to Laura Hill in the D, slotting home.

Bodmin had a strong attacker on the sidelines and her appearance into the game produced one such quick counter attack, a blasting shot brought them back into the game 2-1. However just before the break, Caradon got their buffer with a Bodmin body stopping the ball on the goal line, a penalty stroke was awarded. Up stepped Neve Hunn who calmly placed the ball past the outstretched arm of the keeper, 3-1.

Caradon knew the points weren't in the bag yet and with Bodmin scrapping at chances in the D and bodies on the line, a messy scramble resulted in another penalty stroke - this time for the visitors who converted, 3-2.

The home side did not want their lead to slip and although not pretty hockey, it was an equally scrappy attack that got their fourth - Katie Fear jumping on the loose ball and giving Caradon a two goal lead.

But they weren't finished there, a cool and calm performance by player of the match Nicole Harding in defence played a long ball to Helen Manley whose hit along the baseline and across the face of goal found Laura Hill once again on the end of the pass to strike home at close range.

The game finished 5-2 showcasing Caradon 2s in impressive form. They will need to keep up this confidence and quick play as they face top of the table Duchy away this Saturday with only two games left in the league calendar.
