Match Report

A 3-0 home loss to top of the table Falmouth 1's for Caradon Men's 2's today. This score not only flattered an admittedly excellent opposition but doesn't in any way reflect the sheer determination and fantastic play of Caradon. The game was in fact very evenly matched with the score at half-time held to a 0-0 draw. Both sides had opportunities in the first half but due to great mutual defence and unconverted chances, neither side could break the dead lock. Toby Riddle was exceptional today, throwing himself around in front of goal and constantly thwarting chances that the opposition expected to score. Tim Wright was our stand-out man in defence, reading the game brilliantly from start to finish, consistently bamboozling their 'young guns' in the D. This by no means suggests that our other defenders were slacking, all of them putting in a massive shift. Glen Young had a champagne moment not only scuppering a well-prepared attack but then nut-megging the other player all whilst using his trademark single hand on the stick. Sadly, the second half did not go our way but heads did not drop even for a second and everyone fought right until the end of the match. Falmouth converted their opportunities and if truth be told only one goal was really well worked with the others coming from scrambles and lucky deflections. Caradon, made several goal scoring opportunities aided by Sam P-R who repeatedly managed to pass their very vocal young defensive star, leaving him speechless and at a standstill. Mike Parkinson, Martyn Bevins and Sam P-R all had well-made opportunities but just didn't have the luck of the green today. Garry Mueller was always in the right place at the right time and calmly delivered a fantastic cross. Yet again, Liam Champion showed why he is so vital for our team, stripping the ball time and time again and mounting superb counter attacks, playing well with Ted Dyer who was tremendous again. However, by popular opinion Thomas Turpin received our MOTM this week for sublime skill, confidence on the ball and the composure of someone well beyond his years! A truly great performance from everyone this week. No muppet this week as the whole team were fab and we don't believe in 'mashing' someone when the 'chips' are down especially after such a 'crisp' demonstration of skill.
