Match Report

An emphatic win against a disorganised Truro 4's side for the Men's 2's this weekend. Truro despite having several players with good individual skill were not able to produce any sort of teamwork or link any particularly good passages of play. We were genuinely shocked with the lack of discipline from our hosts who were offensive and rude throughout, this included at least one of their junior players who was threatening (potentially the wrong person to threaten) and swearing at our players throughout. It was also apparent that stick throwing or Teflon grips is taught/are issued in training sessions as several players were unable to keep hold of their sticks throughout with 2 definite carding offences (unissued) where sticks were actually thrown to either interfere with play or indeed at a player and an excellent attempt from their keeper to launch his stick out of the pitch, only to be thwarted by the extra high bit behind the goal... Which in actual fact made the victory so much sweeter! What were the umpires doing whilst all this was going on I hear you ask..? Not a lot is the answer, we were repeatedly told that they were letting as much go as possible to keep the game flowing. This manifested itself in 10+ short corners for Truro and shockingly not a single 1 for us and  most midfield infringements for the home team being allowed, in order to "keep the game flowing" and everything from our side being picked up to "keep the game flowing" - one way. This however had no ill affects on Caradon who remained well disciplined throughout and built a memorable victory. Our defence was yet again rock solid throughout, with truly excellent performances from all concerned and in particular Liam and Tim. As usual our strong midfield partnership of Dyer and Reynolds dictated the play and allowed our forwards the time needed to mount attack after attack. Sam P-R made an excellent break in the first half only to be taken out by their keeper, which by their umpires admission would have resulted in a penalty flick (no card for the keeper) had Ben P-R not swooped in to hammer the ball home before the umpire could blow his whistle. On sugesting (whilst seeing to my injured son) that the keeper perhaps deserved a teensy telling off I was told that this was all dealt with because we scored a goal... The first half ended 1-0 to us. We had a good team talk at half time, with the need for keeping our cool being pressed home. In the second half, Ben Reynolds delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Mike Parkinson who despite his great age sprinted like a greased whippet to the D and thoroughly embarrassed the keeper by slipping the ball into the goal (hence the stick toss)! However, we were not finished there, another great move involving most of the team saw Sam P-R dribble into the D where Ben P-R retrieved the ball in a scramble and netted his second, silencing the opposition but not the vocal Caradon support. Joe Stewart had a great game on the wing, again showing his class and sublime stick control. Any number of players could have been man of the match this week including Tim Wright, Liam Champion and Ben P-R and despite being his dad... due to the number of votes that I received after the match Ben P-R just squeaked it this week! Weirdly, muppet of the match nearly went to an absent player with various sore body parts from last weeks match but we didn't really feel that this was fair. All in all - what a result - well done boys!
