Match Report

Caradon 2s made the trip to Truro for a late pushback on Saturday against St Austell. With a tough few weeks of games against the top teams coming up, they were keen to get 3 points and close the gap on second place Bodmin who didn't play this week.

A delayed start was to start a trend with the game; long pauses in play, cards, talks by the umpires would prolong the match to the point where floodlights were being asked to go on near the end of the game. Despite this, Caradon wanted to get on and play and when they did, they did so with pace.

The atmosphere was quiet so the team had to use their voices as much as their sticks to motivate the play. They broke the deadlock with a superb goal by Abbie Fulford, a short corner played short she struck from the top, across the D and through the goalkeeper. Further chances came and went, with the home side having their own opportunities on short corners but Caradon held out until half time.

A positive chat from Captain Claire Brown set the team off on the right foot, St Austell were a physical side with trips and grazes to both sides, green and yellow cards from some queried umpiring decisions frustratingly slowed down and often even stopped the flow of play. Suddenly Caradon found their groove and started to take charge and use their quick passing to dominate.

Charlotte Tamblyn continued her excellent form and although the second Caradon goal could have been deemed an own goal, it was Charlotte who made the defender play the mistake. She grabbed her second shortly after, sending the keeper the wrong way and slotting home.

Now with a decent buffer Caradon wanted more and with time ticking on the clock, Katie Fear's determination to get on the scoresheet all afternoon paid off as she made it 4-0, final score.

Caradon face Bodmin at Lux Park this weekend and with 1 point separating the two teams in third and second place - there is all to play for.
