Match Report

A solid 5-1 victory for the men's 2's today against Duchy 3's. Very satisfying to win so well after our previous two games. We started very brightly with Sam P-R getting himself into some lovely attacking positions and this was finally rewarded with a well struck goal finding a path between the keeper's legs. Our tally was added to a few minutes later after a short corner saw Tim Wright who injected the ball move in front of the P spot and deftly slot the ball into the goal. Ben Reynolds, Liam Champion and Ted Dyer were in comfortable command of the midfield and enjoying showing off thier skill by beating players and then pulling off accurate passes. Ben Reynolds was wowing the opposition with his brilliant stick control and his tenacious desire to reclaim any lost balls. This tenacity and superior skill eventually won Ben player of the match. Our defence (as usual) was excellent with all concerned making fantastic tackles and great individual saves, notably Tim Wright denied Duchy a goal with a tremendous goal line save. The first half ended at 2-0 to us which felt comfortable by by no means home and dry. After a positive half time talk we decided that 2 was not enough and wise words from Liam Champion inspired Jon P-R to score a hat-trick within the space of about 10 minutes breaking a worrying goal drought. We were clearly in control throughout the rest of the match and the oposition attack was constantly thwarted by our defensive play. Only one small blip and bit of confusion lead to a consolation goal for the visitors. Toby Riddle took responsibility for this momentary lapse and self-nominated himself for DoTD. Again, it was fantastic to witness the self-belief of the team today and see our more inexperienced players constantly growing in confidence. I would also like to thank our excellent umpires for today Jules and Mark who upheld our tradition of fair and balanced umpiring, managing both teams well and stopping any possible issues before they could develop. Also, thanks to Duchy for a sporting and friendly contest!
