Match Report

The men's 2's came away from Bull Point with a 2-2 draw. This was an unexpected result as we dealt with Devonport 3's easily at our last meeting. Play was SO much better than last week and all players should be very proud of the way that they conducted themselves against 13 players.... In my opinion we had to persevere against some of the most one sided umpiring that we have come across. It is such a shame to write this after the email that Jules sent round about respect for umpires. We are lucky at Caradon that our umpires go to great lengths to remain neutral and if poor decisions are ever made they are by mistake and not design. We also had to put up with people from the stands heckling and calling children on our team names (this also happened with players on the pitch). There was a significant amount of unpleasant play which really does spoil a game. However, having said all of this I am hugely proud of my team and the way that we dug in and played to the last. So many positives can be taken from this encounter, the fist goal coming from an early short corner where Ben Reynolds received and struck the ball with such power that it pushed back a defensive stick and smashed into the back board. Joe Stewart scored the second by being in exactly the right place at the right time and nearly came away with a brace narrowly missing on another occasion. Jon P-R narrowly missed an opportunity, sadly, not only lobbing the keeper but also the cross bar from the edge of the circle. We had other opportunities but were unable to convert. Our defence held firm throughout and consistently denied a very skillfull (possibly too skillfull) attack. Joel Tamblyn played well for us in goal and we are thankful that he stepped up for us. Ben Reynolds and Ted Dyer worked infinitely better together this week, proving to be a strong partnership. Ted Dyer was ultimately voted man of the match for his exceptional command of the midfield but was given a very good run for the title by Joe Stewart and Ben Reynolds. It is a pleasure to see the confidence of the players growing week on week and I hope that we can put our Bull Point double nightmare behind us and enjoy the rest of our season.
