Match Report

Caradon 2s travelled to Truro for a lunchtime start against Truro 1s in their third meeting this season, having only played them a few weeks ago in the Cup. This in mind, the team had a good idea of what they were going to face but with the added obstacle of a super bouncy pitch, it wouldn’t be straight forward.

The game started as the 2s matches have all been since the New Year with a strong possession of the ball, Neve Hunn in the pivot position was dominating control of the park with some brilliant passing to the forward players and the defensive line had chance to move up the pitch and create dangerous chances.

A short corner was won by Caradon and after a scramble in the D, it was Natalie Ridgers who found the ball in front of her and managed to get it over the line to settle the side and earn the goal they had deserved.

With the addition of Jess Berry in this game, the wing play was fast as she used her skill along the line to make distance. Despite the fairly good nature of the game, tempers started to show and captains were spoken to so the half time whistle came just at the right time for everyone to have a breather and calm down.

Caradon knew they had another goal or goals in them and threatened once more with good link up play between Laura Hill and Charlotte Tamblyn up front.

The frustration at the incredibly bouncy pitch was felt in the second half as two short corner opportunities for Caradon went array as balls dinked over sticks and became uncontrollable. But the travelling yellows kept their heads and after what seemed an age of possession and the score not moving from 1-0, player of the match Neve Hunn placed the perfect ball on a plate to Laura Hill running towards goal. She took it around the keeper as the team applauded the pass as much as the goal.

With 2 minutes to go Truro got themselves a short corner and following a well worked routine an unstoppable mid-height shot delighted the home side, but Caradon held their guard for what was left of the game to run out a 2-1 win and another 3 points. They are back home at Lux Park this weekend against Marjons 3s.
