Match Report |
Caradon hosted table topping Falmouth at Lux Park and cruised to a 5-1 win.
Caradon had yet to beat Falmouth in a competitive game for 4 seasons so were rightly a little nervous in the pre match warm up but as soon as the game started, all squad members were focused and ready. The early exchanges were fuelled with both teams desire to play good high tempo hockey, but it was Caradon who had the best of the chances with Falmouths keeper pulling off some great reaction saves. Caradon had the bulk of possession and their creative flair pushing forward was testing the visitors ability to keep thier defensive shape. With the first half coming to an end Bizzie Dinnis scored a wonderful goal. Claire Mitchells' perfectly weighted forward pass left Dinnis in a 1v1 situation and her pace and strength was no match for Falmouths' last defender.
With the deadlock broken it wasn't long before Dinnis scored another wonder goal, beating 3 players before her tomahawk shot found the bottom corner.
The half time talk was positive and focused as Caradon were well aware of the visitors ability to come back from 2 goals down.
Emma Gliddon, Amy Batty and Daisy Hunn showed great strength and allowed little into the defensive quarter but could do nothing when a rare penalty corner was converted to give Falmouth hope.
Panic is not a word that Caradon know so continued to play their style of hockey. Molly Walsh and Beth Harris were covering every inch of the pitch and with the willing runs of players off the ball, attacking channels were being found and penalty corners won due to last ditch defending. With a section of routines on offer, Caradon mixed it up with great results. Harris converting from close range and Clare Poad adding a fourth.
With the win now firmly in sight Caradon continued to twist the knife, adding a fifth and final goal when young Saffy Cripps made no mistake from Poads' pull back.
The final whistle came to Falmouths' rescue and Caradons delight. A 5-1 win acts as some form of pay back for the defeat earlier in the season and last years cup final result but more importantly shows how far this still improving team has come since the start of the season. A team that plays with this much energy and commitment will always stand a chance to win every game and when you add the individual improvement it comes as no surprise that Caradon now find themselves sitting at the top of the table.
Next week they travel to take on Pz, looking to continue thier development and increases their winning streak.
