Women's 2nd XI Vs Caradon 3

In what's an always strange fixture for two of Caradons teams to play, turning from club mates to rivals for 70 minutes, the fixture between Caradon 2s and 3s played out at Lux Park in glorious sunny weather for a change.

It was Caradon 3s (the 'away' team in this fixture) who looked more deadly at the start, pushing forward with quick movement and rustling the feathers of the 2s defence. This woke them up and suddenly it became more of an end to end match with chances at either goal. The 3s youngsters on the wings were proving problematic and skillful and they twisted and turned, but the 2s midfield line worked well with the defence to stop any final shot on goal.

The game went into half time at 0-0 in an even balanced match, with both sides potentially in position to get the first goal. It was to be Caradon 2s to break the deadlock. They were building momentum and starting to take charge of the game when a short corner was won for a foot in the D. Neve Hunn's push out found Helen Manley at the top of the circle, a low strike was saved by in form goalkeeper Anna Gubbins but it was Katie Fear who jumped on the rebound to get on the scoresheet. 

Despite nerves being settled slightly, Caradon 2s knew the strength of the 3s and their determination meant they couldn't sit back and went searching for a second goal. Deep into the second half it came from a long corner pass from Lauren Gouge who found Charlotte Tamblyn in front of goal who slotted home. 

With time running out and tired legs all round from the end to end and entertaining hockey, the whistle blew and hugs instead of handshakes broke out amongst the club mates once again. 

Caradon 2s will return to Lux Park this Saturday when they face CSOM as the league continues at pace.
