Match Report |
A good result for the Men's 2's today with a 3-0 win away at Okehampton. The game started well and both teams appeared evenly matched. Okehampton were fielding a stronger side than when they travelled to Lux Park. The deadlock was broken in the first half by Mike Parkinson as he smashed the ball from the edge of the circle and sadly for Okehampton took a small deflection from a defender into the back of the goal. The umpiring was a little confusing at times and decisions felt like they started to go against Caradon, especially when Liam Champion was sent off for asking for clarification... The team regrouped at half-time and everyone promised faithfully to keep their mouths closed and happily for the most part they did this. We had a few chances that we squandered that would have made the scoreline a little more flattering but eventually our persistance paid off in the second half when Ben Reynolds blasted the ball into the D allowing Jon P-R to get the slightest of touches on the ball as it flew past the keeper. This gave us the buffer and confidence that we needed to comfortably control the final minutes of the second half. Throughout the whole match (get this Poady) our Press was good, consistently putting Okehampton under pressure and forcing mistakes. The highlight came when a superb passage of play saw linked passes between Joe Stewart, Sam P-R, via Ben P-R who returned the Ball to Stewart who beat the keeper with a perfectly placed shot. Minutes later Ben Reynolds was pretty unfairly green carded for a tackle that even the opposition player agreed was accidental. The umpire was having non of it and to Ben's enourmous credit he kept quiet and took his punishment like a legend. The 2's are blessed with a fantastic and experienced defence, who are equal to anything thrown at them and an excellent mid-field who control the game allowing the forward line to score. Well done everyone - an impressive performance!
