Match Report

A slightly odd match this week for the men's 2's against the "Truro 5's Development" team. We were eventually victorious in a rollercoaster game. The development squad fielded some very experienced players and informed us afterwards that this was only their third loss of the season and by far their hardest match. Sadly our points won't count as it will be recorded as a draw due to the "Development" status of the team. Martyn Bevins opened the scoring with an excellent solo goal which he smashed into the backboard after beating most of the other team. Truro then replied with 2 of their own which were well worked in the D and certainly against the run of play. Sam P-R evened the score when a deflection flew towards him and he drilled it into the net baseball style. We were a little short on specialist defenders but Ben Reynolds and Mike Parkinson stepped up and both played fantastiacally. James North and Thomas Turpin also fortified the defence playing skillfully and denying further goals. Toby Riddle also made some excellent saves, throwing himself all over the D. Bevins finished the first half with an excellent strike from a short corner move. Half-time score was 3-2 to Caradon. In the second half there were not as many goals and a bit more agro in what was a largely good natured game. One player became so frustrated with Bevins' skill that he just resorted to crashing in to him for the majority of the half. The player did receive a green card but probably not soon enough. They managed to claw a goal back evening the score which made the next few minutes a little tense but a great passage of play from Bevins had the ball dribbling towards the goal where veteran goal stealer Jon P-R denied him of his hat-trick (oops). Special mention should go to Joe Stewart who deceptively skinned multiple players with apparent ease and to Ted Dyer who is establishing himself as the back bone of the team with his calm decision making and superb tackling. In the end, this was a good result against a curious team.
