Marjons 4 Caradon 5
Caradon made the short trip across the Tamar to take on a Marjons team who had been struggling for form in recent weeks.
The pre match confidence from Caradon was soon set aside however as Marjons raced to a 2-0 lead within 5 minutes. Playing crash ball hockey, Marjons were in the driving seat and put Caradons defence under extreme pressure. On a rare attack forward, Caradon were awarded a penalty corner which Saffy Cripps steered home. The home team continued thier style of play and were rewarded when a long ball forward was judged to have had the slightest of deflections by thier high forward to make the score 3-1 at half time.
Caradons team talk was completely positive despite the scoreline, and this proved to be the turning point in the game. The next team to score was going to be crucial and it was Caradon who got it within 5 minutes if the restart. Bizzie Dinnis working her magic on the left found a pass to Lucy Lee Smith who fired into the net. Caradon were now clicking together and thier usual passing game was working. Libby Walsh and Clare Mitchell provided the calmness needed to unlock the strong Plymouth defence. Dinnis scored the equaliser and her first of the day when finishing with power from the right. Caradon could have made the mistake of thinking that a draw was a good result after the first half but this team were here for the win. Lee-Smith was a bundle of energy on the front line, pressing hard and turning over possession which only spurred the team on more. Dinnis scored her second with a powerful reverse strike from a tight angle to give Caradon the lead for the first time.
Marjons were struggling to break through the midfield with Molly Walsh and Beth Harris both having outstanding performances as defending midfielders.
Before long, Dinnis claimed her hat trick, sealed her player of the match performance and gave Caradon a 2 goal cushion when she scored from the right with a thunder bolt of a goal.
Caradons defence were now all about game management and they looked assured until a penalty corner was converted to leave an anxious last few minutes.
The final whistle game to Caradon players and spectators relief. An amazing comeback from an amazing team who simply never give up.
This result now sees this newly promoted team top the table with 1 game to play before the Christmas break.
