Match Report

Caradon 2s had a late pushback against Plymouth University on Saturday with the hope of grabbing 3 points in the last league game of the season before the Christmas break.

Despite an early scare they started strong, in the freezing conditions they dominated the play and set up chances. One such chance came around the quarter mark as some slick play moved the team up the pitch and a cross from Charlotte Tamblyn got through everyone to find Helen Manley on the far post for an easy tap in.

Caradon had further chances but Uni got themselves more opportunity with some quick counter attacks, with fitness on their side they opened up the visiting defence and started to look more into the game. A fast paced last 15 minutes meant the half time was a much needed breather for both sides.

Caradon were winning more short corners but couldn’t quite beat the excellent shot stopping Uni keeper so had to think of other ways to get around her. Player of the match Charlotte Tamblyn was once again involved in the second goal, her strong push out on a short was hit at the top of the D and she jumped on a rebound to make it 2-0.

It was an end to end match, exciting for the very vocal support team for Uni whose influences on the umpire were frustrating to the visitors. The home side got back into the game with a low hit ball and with 10 minutes to go Caradon were keen to get another goal for a buffer. Unfortunately in the melee of a crowded D, Charlotte Harrison literally threw herself on the line but caught the ball with her body resulting in a penalty flick. As the Uni striker hit home, Caradon put up a strong fight in the last few minutes but couldn’t quite get the passes together to grab the winner.

Another frustrating game for Caradon 2s, despite some really impressive passing hockey into space and making space. With a cup game against Truro this weekend, they can feel the Christmas break has come just at the right time to reset and restart the second half of the season again in January.
