Caradon and Newquay played out a 1-1 draw at a wet and windy lux park. With both squads missing players the game took a while to find its flow with players adjusting to new positions. Newquay started the sharpest and it took some great saves from Caradons goal keeper, Helen Delbridge to keep the visitors out. A player of the match performance.
The midfield of Lucy Kay, Beth Harris, Molly Walsh, Libby Walsh, Carina Hodge and Saffy Cripps were battling hard. Their work rate was super impressive in what was turning out to be a midfield battle with neither teams creating too many chances in the circle.
With a focused half time talk, Caradon knew that with a bit more determination to win 50/50 balls, chances would come. They didn't have to wait long to break the deadlock as within 5 minutes from the restart they got thier reward. An inspired run from right back, Emma Gliddon, saw her beat several players before pulling the ball back from the base line to make the perfect chance for Clare Poad to beat her defender to the ball and slot home.
Caradon could have extended their lead in the next 10 minutes. Newquay were now on the back foot but 2 chances created by supporting forward, Clare Mitchell, were well saved by the keeper and a Poad strike hitting the post.
Newquay slowly got themselves back into the game and despite Caradons best efforts could not prevent a penalty flick being awarded and converted.
With both teams struggling with the conditions the game petered out with both teams seeming to settle for a share of the points.
Specail mention to the umpires Luke Jeffery and Mark McCartney who did a really good job in keeping the game safe and flowing in very tricky conditions.
Next week Caradon take on local rivals Marjons in Plymouth.
