Women's 2nd XI Vs St Austell

After weeks of playing their matches in the pouring rain, Caradon 2s had a dry and mild day to welcome visitors St Austell to Lux Park.

From the off Caradon dominated play but it took a while to get their first goal, despite chances and good runs goalwards it wasn't until a short corner was brilliantly finished off by Abbie Fulford with a routine practiced at training earlier that week.

The goal didn't exactly open the flood gates and Caradon had to react quickly to counter attacks, captain Claire Brown unfortunately took a ball to the knee and being on the goal line at the time it awarded St Austell a penalty flick which was expertly saved by Lynn Oxenham in goal keeping the score 1-0 at halftime.

Abbie was on the scoresheet again with another well put away short corner, striking from the top of the D straight into the goal - two great goals and an impressive midfield display earning her player of the match.

Caradon found themselves down a player as a yellow was shown to one of the defence, they kept calm and kept their heads with a shuffle to cover the back maintained the 2-0 lead. With this 2 goal buffer lead, the team now found time and space to play the ball to their game and speed and found their groove after Lauren Gouge picked up the ball in midfield, passing forwards to Laura Hill who slipped to Helen Manley taking a step into the D and smashing home.

Laura then got herself in amongst the goals with a great solo bit of work, taking the ball around the keeper to strike low and hard just to make sure the score was 4-0. The game finished with that result and another 3 points as two vital games are now on the horizon, facing the top two teams Bodmin and Duchy this weekend and next.
