Match Report

Caradon ran out an early game against Marjons in some now typical autumnal hockey weather – wind and rain. Keen to get into the game from the start and get some goals, they did just this after lots of pressure on the Marjons defence Laura Hill stepped up jumping on a cross to slot home to ease any early nerves.

Unfortunately shortly after this Laura took a ball to the head and was forced to sit the rest of the game out. With a few regular players already missing, the team once again had to reshuffle. This didn’t seem to fluster them too much but Marjons found a few counter attack opportunities, however Lynn Oxenham in goal made some brilliant saves to keep it 1-0 at half time.

Nicole Harding was next on the scoresheet with the goal of the game, if not the season so far, a top of the D smash reached the goal in the tightest inches of the post and had the celebration to match. Caradon seemed to switch off at this point and with Marjons having a formation reshuffle themselves, one particular midfielder started to work their play and a goal got past the Caradon defence. 2-1. Despite playing with an injury of her own, Katie Fear grabbed another goal for the visitors and they felt comfortable at 3-1 up – possibly too comfortable as a quick counter resulted in another Marjons goal as they chased back 3-2. With 10 minutes left and tempers starting to show with some inconsistent official decisions proving frustrating, Marjons won a short corner and in the scramble scuffed the ball over the line to make it 3-3. The Caradon defence worked hard in the last 10 to keep a point in sight with Charlotte Harrison clearing the ball off the line and captain and player of the match Claire Brown also standing strong to keep the score level. Caradon 2’s take a point and currently sit third in the table with a game in hand.
