Womens 4th XI Vs Penzance 2

Caradon Ladies 4s travelled to Penzance on Saturday to play their ladies 2nd team, who had been demoted from Trelawney1 league the at the end of last season. The Penzance squad was large, with them having 5 subs and Caradon having brought only 1. Penzance started the match well, scoring their 1st goal on 8 minutes. Two minutes later Caradon suffered a setback when Ruby Wilton caught a ball to the leg and ended up leaving the pitch with a broken ankle. Penzance continued their attack on Caradon and scored 2 further goals on 18 and 33 minutes. The score at half time being 3-0. A strong talk at half time and Caradon came out battling. On 44 minutes Emma Hedley scored from a penalty corner, only for the goal to be disallowed by the umpire, for being injected too early. Not to be deterred, Emma was awarded another Penalty corner 2 minutes later. The corner was injected in to the D by Tiegan Bindon, played to Pippa Hedley, who then made a lovely pass across to Emma at the right post, who popped the ball past the Penzance keeper. Caradon battled throughout the match but with no subs and Penzances army of them, they became tired and the home team were able to score one more goal on 61 minutes. nonethe less Caradon kept their heads held high and strove for more goals. Lila Johns, going one on one with the Penzance keeper in only her second adult league match, pushing the ball past her and hitting the backboard, with a resounding thud. Unfortuantely fate was against Caradon, as the umpire blew his whistle and gave a green card to a Penzance player for a bad tackle just outside the D and contentiously disallowed the Caradon goal. The match finished 4-1 to Penzance but was not a true reflection of how well Caradon played. Player of the match was Lila Johns.
