Match Report

A 7-1 victory for the 2’s on Saturday against an inexperienced Plymouth University 3rd’s team, which in reality flattered the opposition. On paper it was a great result but we played down to the standard of the Uni rather than playing at our potential level. Ben reynolds opened the scoring with a well worked solo goal, closely followed by goals from Jon P-R, Ben-P-R (first men’s goal !) and then Ben Reynolds again. There was some excellent individual defending from Caradon with some crucial goal saving tackles from Liam Champion. We conceded a well worked goal in the first half which was much celebrated by the home side. Tom Turpin provided a textbook assist with a powerful cross from the edge of the D – something for us all to try to emulate at practice.

After a team talk focused on simple hockey we had high hopes for the second half. Sadly, we continued to struggle with structure but we did manage to add 3 more goals to our tally. Goals from Sam P-R, Jon P-R and a stunning flick from a short corner by Mike Parkinson, taking a deflection from a player and the keeper before slamming into the back of the net. Special mention for Drew Champion for sublime stick control throughout, consistently leaving the opposition slashing at thin air.
