Match Report

Caradons Men's 2nd team started off the new season at Lux Park in the sunshine and made the most of the good weather. Umpired excellently by Julia Walsh and Clare Poad our boys made the most of early season enthusiasm and put out a side with a good mix of youth and experience. The game was very even but the home side scored first when a mistake by the Okehampton keeper gave Jon Pennington-Ridge an easy tap in behind him. Okehampton came back quickly with text book move straight from the training field that saw them draw even. Okehampton briefly took the lead when a bouncing ball beat Liam Champion at the top of the circle flying high over his head and fell perfectly for the visitors centre forward to smash into the goal. The home side then turned on the pressure and it was Ben Reynolds who evened the scores for the home side with a lovely deflection that beat the keeper.

The second half was mostly a one sided affair with Caradon asserting their dominance over the visitors. Though the play was going their way they just couldn't seem to get into the visitors circle let alone score. Okehampton got close on a couple of occasions but Liam Champion and the Caradon defense dealt with these without much fuss. Eventually the pressure Caradon were putting on at the other end of the pitch paid off and after bit of a scrap in the circle the ball fell nicely enough for Jon Pennington Ridge to shoot it into the goal and take the lead. Despite the visitors best efforts they just couldn't claw back a goal, which gave Caradon a nice 3-2 win for their first game of the season.
