Smashing start to the season as the Ladies 3’s come away with a 5-2 win against St Austell. The sun shone and energy levels were high on the sandy Penair pitch, thanks to an enthusiastic warm up from joint captain Abi Larigo.
Carina Hodge (Player of the Match) found the back of the net in the 12th minute putting the first goal on the match sheet. St. Austell retaliated a minute later with a crisp goal. The pressure was on, but Caradon held most the possession with some impressive individual and team play. Five minutes before the half time whistle Laura Hill took Caradon ahead. With a powerful strike on goal which seen the ball heading to the top right corner followed by lots of cheers from the yellow shirts.
A motivational half time talk from joint captain Sharon Jeffery, quick swig then it was guns blazing for the second half!
Keeper Anna Gubbins quick reactions avoided any red faces as twice over St Austell powered down the middle and looked threatening in the D. Joint Player of the match Nicola Haigh shadow marked their key up front player to block her out of the game.
Three further Caradon goals came from Kerenza Bunt, Jo Maudsley and Laura Hill - nice work ladies. St Austell popped in their second three minutes before the final whistle. The game ended shortly after a defensive short corner of which Caradon stayed strong and cleared.
Overall great team spirit, let’s hope the team continue with the same enthusiasm and drive as this was an exhilarating game to watch. We welcome friends and family to join in and support next Saturdays home game as the 3’s face the 2’s at Lux Park, sure to be an exciting game!
