Match Report

Caradon hosted Shepton Mallet in their first fixture in Division 1 after winning promotion last season.
Unsure of what to expect, the home team started nervously and it was Shepton who raced to a 2-0 lead with 2 well taken counter attack goals.
Not use to conceding early goals, Caradon could have easily folded but showed great spirit and refused to roll over. A beautiful drag flick from a penalty corner by player of the match, Molly Walsh gave the home team a glimmer of hope but Shepton hit back immediately with a well taken penalty corner moments later.
Half time came to Caradons rescue. A chance to emphasis the fight required and tactical ambitions stated, there was a renewed belief that they could still get something from the game.
Caradon showed complete trust in each other and the pressure on Shelton's goal was growing. Libby Walsh and Saffy Cripps were growing in their roles and began to win their 1v1 battles. The team press worked tirelessly and Shepton struggled to clear their lines. A goal mouth scramble resulted in Clare Mitchell stabbing the ball home to give the home supporters more reason to raise the volume and push the team forward.
It was all Caradon now as they pushed for the equaliser. Bizzie Dinnis worked tirelessly against their faultless center back, penalty corners were won but not converted and half chances narrowly missed the target. Determination and work ethics paid off as Captain, Clare Poad scored the all important equalisers after her strike found the keeper flat footed.

Shepton were now hanging on but it was the final whistle that saved them from defeat

3-3 the final score. A great game to start the new season with lessons learnt but more importantly a show of togetherness and great attitude wihich will be needed in games to come.
This week the team travel to one of the league title favourites, Falmouth, but with confidence high it could be a close encounter.
